Civil Aviation Spokesperson States No Ban on Private Taxis at Siem Reap-Angkor Airport

Phnom Penh: Mr. Sin Chanserivutha, the Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson for the Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation, has clarified that there is no prohibition on informal transportation services at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport. However, these services must adhere to the regulations and procedures established by the airport.

Mr. Sin Chanserivutha confirmed that the introduction of passenger services at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport is necessary due to the new airport being approximately 50 km from Siem Reap, with no available public transportation options. Therefore, the decision was made to operate a taxi service. Siem Reap Angkor International Airport has entrusted the rights to a company providing airport transportation services, which are priced at $35 per car, $40 per bus, or $8 per person.

He pointed out, "When comparing the transportation costs, a bus ride costs $8 per person for a nearly 50-kilometer journey. In terms of pricing, these transportation services are competitive and not significantly different from other options."

However, he mentioned that passengers still have the choice to use alternative transportation services if they find the costs more favorable. These services are not affiliated with the Airport Carriers Association.

He also emphasized that unregistered external transportation providers can pick up passengers, similar to practices at other airports. However, they must comply with the airport's rules, regulations, and procedures. If they require parking, it must be done at designated areas, and they must pay any associated parking fees.

It's important to note that Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. recently issued a notification regarding taxi operations at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport. They have authorized the Tourist Transport Association for Siem Reap International Airport (TTA) to provide taxi services. Additionally, another company, Limousines, has been engaged to ensure the transportation needs of tourists are met.

TTA will ensure a comfortable travel experience with 261 minivans (seating less than 7 passengers) and 69 minibuses (seating 8 to 15 passengers) to cater to passengers' needs. The taxi fares are as follows: $35 per trip for a minibus, $40 per trip for a minibus, or $8 per person.
